This year the Buccaneer boys soccer team got a taste of the first round playoffs. Although that game did not end as they had hoped, losing 2-1 in double overtime, the team is proud of their accomplishments this year and very optimistic about next year being even better.

¨I was blessed by being the captain of this amazing team and every time I step on the field is the best feeling,” team captain Jordan Cantu said.

Coach Bryan Hayman joined the team this year, helping the team build on their skills and prepare for a successful season. Hayman pins some of that success on having a strong leader on the field as well.

“Having Jordan as a captain has made it easy to build a strong relationship with the guys,” Hayman said. “He bought in to what I wanted to do early and he sees the vision that I have for the program, and he has been able to get his teammates to buy into what what we want to accomplish.  That has been a huge part of our success this year.”

Our boys overall ended the season with fourteen wins, six ties, and four loses. A great run for our boys this year with seven wins, two ties, and three loses in district. The last game with Friendswood was a close call of 2-1. The loss was a learning experience for next year, which is why our team has a good mindset about it all. We have a state rank of 66 and a national rank of 396.

“I have enjoyed my time on the field and felt that players support me through every game too, just like I support them,” senior Stephen Davis said.

Even through loses this team takes it as a gain and for that they will come back stronger next year.
