Every year students spend countless hours preparing for fair exhibitions. From student art, talent, photography, hand made goods, and animals, students have a wide variety of ways to earn honors at the Brazoria County Fair.
This year was no exception as several members of the FFA organization took to the fairgrounds in Angleton to prove they were the best.

“The Fair went very well and Brazoswood FFA brought home several ribbons, belt buckles, plaques and honors.” advisor Evie Hubbard said.

Many members of the student group were able to catch calves at the nightly calf scramble, earning certificates to put toward the purchase of a calf to show in next year’s fair. Senior Kylee Hubbard caught a calf last year and was able to show her very first Scramble Heifer this year where her calf placed as the Reserve Class Champion.

“I’ve been showing since I was nine, but this was my first time to show under the Scramble division,” Hubbard said. “It felt good to be back in the ring and to get something back in return.”

Ag Mechanics students had the opportunity to build projects that would be judged on overall quality and design. Coby Fuchs and Ryan Hempel produced a crawfish table which was sent to auction.

“We just thought we wanted to do something for the fair,” Fuchs said. “It surprised me that it went for $800, I thought maybe $500, but I was excited.”

Many other students participated and had great results.

“Spending time with my animals and showing really helps to develop responsibility,” first time exhibitor Brynlee Batchelor said.
